Halloween Reads

Hey Guys!

Happy Halloween!!! to celebrate the spooky season, I thought that today I would share with you some of my all time favourite Halloween reads. So, lets do this!!!

The Forest Of Hands And Teeth by Carrie Ryan

This is the first book in an awesome trilogy. The books revolve around a post-apocalyptic world that is overrun by ‘zombies’. The book follows a young woman/girl as she leaves the relative safety of her village and ventures into the forest. A place completely overrun. This book really gets under your skin. It put me forests for a very long time. This story twists and manipulates, shifts and turns. It is the perfect story for Halloween

Dracula By Bram Stoker

a brilliantly creepy classic. You cannot go wrong with it at this time of year. If you are pushed for time, this is the book for you. It is a very easy read, in an unusual format. Dracula is a story that we know, but that we need to read. It is dark and creepy and honestly, such a good read.

Shadow House, The Gathering By Dan Poblocki

prepare to be very creeped out. Shadow House, The Gathering is the first book in, I believe, a trilogy. These books are technically aimed at a younger audience, I believe around the same age range as Harry Potter, but I honestly would never give this to a child. It is so quiet scary. The book follows five 12-14 year olds as they summoned to a deserted mansion in the middle of nowhere, for seemingly innocent reasons, but, this isn’t the case. Right from the first page the creepy begins. There are girls in the mirror, music that no-one else can hear and so much more. I really enjoyed this book, although I wish I hadn’t read it at night.

Before I Go To Sleep by S J Warson

This physiological thriller may not be what you think of when you hear Halloween Reads, but trust me, it works. The story follows a woman with a form of amnesia that means that every time she goes to sleep, she forgets everything. She relies souly on those around her to illuminate her world every morning. This book follows her as she realises that they may not be telling her the truth. This book will make you super paranoid. You wont trust anyone after reading it. It is so unnerving

Lockwood & Co, The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud

this is another book spuriously aimed at a younger audience, although I am left to question this. The Lockwood & Co series focuses around a ghost hunter, private agency..if that makes since. The series is set in a universe where ghost freely wonder the streets at night and it is up to children/teenagers (the only people that can actively see them) to hunt them and take them down. The books follow a specific agency ‘Lockwood & Co’ on their adventures. These books sound light-hearted, but they aren’t Yes there are funny moments, but there are also lots of scary and disturbing ones as well. For instance there is a moment in the first book with a bleeding room. Definitely not a book I would give to anyone under 16, but it is a very good read.

Slasher Girls and Monster Boys by Various (Edited by April Genevieve Tucholke)

This collection of 14 short stories will really get you into the Halloween spirit. Each little story is by a different YA author and all of them are spooky/scary/horror stories. The stories range from a zombie apocalypses to a game with Death, a ghost in ww2 to a internet serial killer. Plus this book has works form some seriously incredible authors, Leigh Bardugo, Carrie Ryan, Marie Lu, Jay Kristoff and many more. This whole book will leave you super unnerved.
