Book Review: Allegiant by Veronica Roth

It’s the weekend, so you know what that means, its book review time. This week we are finishing another incredible trilogy. Yep, you guessed it, its time for Allegiant by Veronica Roth, the final instalment in the Divergent trilogy. It has taken me nearly a year to get here, so, without further ado, here we go.

Well I’m sobbing. This trilogy was completely and utterly incredible. Even if it was also mildly traumatising and has reduced to me ugly sobbing on my bed. I think that this may actually be the best dystopian series I have ever read. I can totally understand why people love it so much. Every single second of it was brilliant. There was never a dull second, something was always happening, and I loved it.

Allegiant was the perfect finish to this trilogy. It had everything that you expect from this trilogy, and so much of what you wanted, even if at times, it was heartbreaking. The characters have grown so much since we first met them. Tris is virtually unrecognisable. She has grown into this brave, strong, caring, young woman, who is determined to do the right thing, no matter how hard that is. And Four has just overcome so much. He has pushed aside his fear of his father, learnt to love, learnt consequences and just generally learnt to be himself. But the same could be said for so many of the secondary characters, like Tris and Shauna, Uriah and Zeke. Just everyone has grown and changed so much.

And so many characters have redeemed themselves. Peter, Caleb and Evelyn. Throughout this book they proved themselves. They proved that they can change, grow and be better people. And they where rewarded with forgiveness. It was so lovely to see. Not many books allow the bad redemption

And then there was the characters that took arms and stepped up. Learnt to fight for what they believe in. If you had told me at the beginning of this series that Johanna would stand up and fight for freedom, I would never have believed you. And that’s the beauty of this series, you never know what you expect from it.

I also loved the way actual story progressed in this book as well. I loved the alternating POV and I loved the storylines, I loved it all. You got to see so much more in this book. You where taken to a whole new world that so different, yet still the same. You followed the biggest, best uprising You saw them make a change. And, although it hurt and made me cry, I think that everything that happened, worked. Without spoiling anything, just imagine if things had gone differently, the characters futures wouldn’t be true to their personalities, at least in my opinion.

I honestly loved this trilogy so much. It was full of drama, fighting, growth, love, hardship and joy. It had everything you could ever want in a series, and more. I loved it so very much, and I am both sad that its over, but also content with the way it ended. (although the epilogue made me cry, even more then I already was).

I think I need to go sit in a quiet room and process that book for a while. This entire trilogy was just so very brilliant I loved it so much. My only regret is not reading it sooner. I hope that you have enjoyed this review, I’m going to go sob into a pillow now, so I will see you all again soon.
