Book Review: The Christmas Stocking And Other Stories by Katie Fforde

Hey Guys!

Its day 15! And today I am doing another festive book review! and this one is an anthology! My first anthology of Blogmas! So, today, it is all about The Christmas Stocking And Other Stories BY Katie Fforde. As usual, I will review this book in my normal style for anthologies, a short review of it as a whole, with a mini-review for each individual story. so, let’s do this!

I don’t usually read authors like Katie Fforde. The books that she writes just aren’t really my thing. But, I picked up a copy of The Christmas Stocking And Other Stories on a whim last year, as I love a good, romance heavy, Christmas anthology. Unfourntialy, I didn’t love this collection. I can definitely see why people do love Katie Fforde, but she isn’t for me. I found her writing to be very predictable and unrealistic and suffering from some serious insta-love. I also felt like all of her stories were sort of the same. the same formula just slightly different execution in each. Her stories were sweet and a couple were very festive. In fact, there was one story in this collection that I did quite enjoy reading, but the rest were all just a bit mediocre. I just felt like all of her stories needed a bit more work, a bit more development. And what annoyed me was that there was space for development and a deeper story as each story was at least 50 pages long, a lot longer than most short stories. All in all, it wasn’t a terrible collection, but it wasn’t great either. I won’t be jumping at a chance to read anything by Katie Fforde again. If you are after a Christmas romance anthology, My True Love Gave To Me is far, far better.

The Christmas Stocking

A sweet but predictable story. you knew exactly what was going to happen from the very first page. It was pretty sweet, a very fluffy romance story but it was also pretty unrealistic. Would you really drive into the middle of nowhere with a stranger? And then stay with that strange for Christmas? I think not. That is how you get murdered IRL. But ultimately, it wasn’t terrible. And the easy, lighthearted little story, with a decent dose of festive cheer

A Dream Christmas

Well, that was pretty damn strange. I can honestly say that this story was not something that I was expecting to be in this book. and frankly, it didn’t work. Yes, it had some festiveness to it, but it was just so bloody weird. and nothing was explained and it honestly gave me a headache. Not only did the story make zero sense, the characters where awful. I did not like them, at all. This story is terrible, and after reading a few reviews of it, I am not the only person who thinks so.

Candlelight At Christmas

Okay, this one I really liked. It was so sweet and very, very festive. It gave me all the warm Christmassy feelings that I was hoping to feel with this book. I loved that it had such a big focus son family and family-like friends. this is what Christmas is all about after all. I also loved that it didn’t shy away from talking about the unpleasant side of Christmas. inlaws from hell and divorced/remarried family situations. it was just a  really nice little story and it really made my heart happy. This was exactly what I was expecting from this book

Dogs Are For Christmas

I quite liked this story as well. I was very sweet, all be it, very predictable. It was one of those stories (like the first one in this collection) where you knew exactly what was going to happen from the first page. It also suffered from the unrealisticness that the first story did (who dec) but, I did still enjoy it. it was a very sweet story, that contains a surprising amount. I loved how dog heavy it was. and although it didn’t have the most festive feel to it, it was still a lovely little Christmas story

A Christmas In Disguise.

Yea, I didn’t like this on. like, at all. All of the characters really annoyed me, as did the storyline. plus, in my opinion, it wasn’t festive at all. It basically just left me wanting to slap multiple people. It is safe to say that I was not a fan of this story

The Christmas Fairy

Oh, I don’t know how I feel about this one. it was a pretty sweet story and it definitely had some festive feeling to it, but I didn’t love it. I liked that it was at least a bit realistic but ti was still very predictable. I also found myself being pretty annoyed by the main character. I just found her needy and irritating, and I don’t know why. she just really annoyed me. It was an okay story, but it wasn’t anything to write home about
