Today marks 4 years of this blog! How amazing is that?!? I can’t believe that I have been blogging for four years now. I just want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to all of you! I love you all. So today I am celebrating by posting my next spooky book review. today it is the turn of Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab. So, let’s do this!
This is such an underrated book series. it deserves a lot more love and attention then it currently receives. It is a truly great story and I really like it!
This is such a fantastic ghost story. it reminds me a little of Lockwood & Co, but at the same time it also manages to feel very fresh and unique. I think that Schwab has done a fantastic job at creating this story and world. She has managed to seamlessly blend the supernatural/paranormal into our world. It feels like this could actually be real. I think that a big reason that this works so well is because Schwab uses real history and culture form the books location to flush out the story and the world. I thought that this was particularly well done with this second book. as someone who has been to Paris and visited the Catacombs, I can categorically state that Schwab’s knowledge of the place was completely accurate. There is just so much depth to this story.
It isn’t just the fantastic world building that I enjoyed. I also just liked the storyline general. It was really good. I love that in this second book we got to experience a different kind of ghost. It was such a different story then the first book. I really loved that we got to see this different side to the world as it really helped to expand the story and I honestly think that it has set up the world for the rest of the series. there is so much potential in this story. I also loved that this book felt darker than the first book. a lot darker at times. It is still firmly within the middlegrade genre, but I think that this is going to be one of those series that grows with its audience. I am intrigued to see what this story is like at its conclusion.
I am also curious to see where our characters will be. They have already grown so much, just in the short time that we have known them. Cass has developed so much as a character. She I starting to gain confidence in herself and understand her abilities. She is finally starting to discover her abilities. She is finally starting to discover who she is. And the same can be said for Jacob. We learnt so much about him in this book. about his history. And we have seen him change a lot as well. I really want to know what is going on with him.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It was dark and intriguing, packed full of friendship and humour and great characters. it was a great sequel. I already want the next book!
