Book Review: Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff

Hey Guys!

Another week has been and gone and so that can only mean one thing, it is time for another book review! This week is the turn of a book that I have been wanting to read over a year and a half, and that book is Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff. So, without further ado, let’s do this!

Why, so why did I wait so long to continue reading this series! it is so fucking good! I absolutely adore the series.

I honestly wasn’t sure how this book was ever going to be able to follow on from the, frankly, epic climax of the first book, but boy did it manage it! Godsgrave managed to take this story in a whole new direction, while still also staying very true to the story that we already know and love. I really loved seeing this new side of the story. It really expanded the world and upped the stakes. We got to see so much more of this universe, from different locations to the other side of the society. This book somehow managed to show an even more brutal and bloody world then we were introduced to in the first book. something that I honestly didn’t think was possible. I loved being introduced to this whole other side of the story. The competition and the brutality, it was just fantastic to read.

I also loved seeing how much Mia has grown throughout this book. She is so different to the girl that we met at the start of Nevernight. She has had some major character development, while still holding onto what makes Mia, Mia. Throughout this series you are seeing her slowly healing and allowing people into her life and her heart. She is letting love of and friendship into her life. I loved seeing her relationships with Ash and Mercurio and the Gladiati. It all just added another layer to Mia’s personality. more depth. I can’t wait to see where the story leads her in the end. She has so much potential as a character, and I feel like we are only just scratching the surface of her. there is still so much to learn about her.

I will admit that I did struggle to get into this book a little to start with. So much so that this was actually my second attempt at reading it! I started it around this time last year but ended up DNfing it as I couldn’t get into it (I blame my reading slump at the time) but I decided to try again as I had really loved the first book. And I’m glad that I did. I loved how many twists and turns there were in this book, although I will admit that I did predict a few of the major plot twists, particularly the two big reveals towards the end of the book. but for the most part I loved the suspense and reveals

All in all, I really liked this book. I don’t think that it was quite as good as the first book, but it was pretty damn close! If you haven’t read the series yet, you need to ASAP

star 4.54.5 out of 5

And there we have it! That is my review of Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff. Have you read this series yet? What did you think about Godsgrave? I can’t wait to read Darkdawn! I hope that you have enjoyed today’s post and I will see you all again very soon
