Well I seem to be having very good luck with poetry collections at the moment. I really enjoyed this collection! It was everything that I hoped that it would be and more!

This collection was brilliant! I loved that all the poems shared a common theme, saving yourself and not relying on men. It reminded me a lot of Fierce Fairytales by Nikita Gill, but better. This collection had everything that the other lacked. It was a really brilliant exploration of what it means to be alive. To be a woman. With all the highs and lows of life. I love how much of life this collection explored. It left no stone unturned. I really liked that it didn’t just focus on one aspect of life, but instead explored many. It gave a really well rounded look into modern life.

While the book wasn’t the most beautifully written, it was incredibly thought provoking and emotive. It actually managed to make me cry, more than once. the poems truly made me feel. It was one of the most thought provoking collections that I have read to date. It really packed a punch. Particularly honest and unafraid. I honestly felt so many emotions while reading this collection. Many more than I was ever expecting too. the only collection that has ever moved me like this one did is ‘Stuff I’ve Been Feeling Lately’ by Alicia Cook. I was just so impressed by this collection.

All in all, I really did enjoy this collection. It is one of the best that I have read to date. If you enjoy modern poetry, then you will 100% should read this collection

star 4.54.5 out of 5

And there we have it. have you read ‘The Princess Saves Herself In This One’ yet? what did you think about it? Any poetry collections that you think that I should check out? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.

  1. Yes, this is a great collection! If you liked this one, maybe check out If My Body Could Speak, by Blythe Baird. It’s a fantastic collection also about just growing up as a girl/woman, dealing with societal pressures, and deals with topics including trauma, eating disorders/body image, sexuality, family, and mental health. Absolutely fantastic.

      1. I hope you like it! If you like poetry in general, I can definitely give you some other recommendations in different areas, but subject-wise I think those two titles go together really well. I don’t think I ever moved my review for it from Goodreads to my blog, but it was mostly me going on about how dang good it was…maybe I’ll do that later today or tomorrow 😊
