It’s time for another book review. this week it is the turn of another poetry collection. Today’s collection is Stuff I’ve Been Feeling Lately by Alicia Cook. So, let’s do this!
Wow, just wow! I think that this might be my new favourite poetry collection! I absolutely adored it. it is such a fantastic book.
I don’t think that a poetry collection has ever made me feel quiet as much as this one did. it was so amazing. Each poem made me think. I tabbed so many poems while reading this collection. There where so many poems that I loved. They are so damn beautifully written. There was real depth to the poems and they are all really struck a chord with me. There were so many that made me sit back and just think ‘that’s me’. It was an utterly unique experience for me.
I will be 100% honest with you and admit that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ‘Side B’. the second half of the book. the ‘remix section. It just wasn’t for me. I found them a little bit underwhelming. I have never been a huge fan of single sentence or black out poetry. There were a few that I really liked. Most of which were, oddly, remixes of poems that I really enjoyed in ‘Side A’. I think if you do enjoy single sentence poems of black out poetry then you will 100% love this collection. It is a truly beautiful collection.
And I think that it is a great concept for a poetry collection. The idea of it being a mix tape, with two sides, and each poem being a ‘track’ was brilliant. it isn’t something that I have seen before and I really enjoyed it. I also loved that at the end of each poem the author included what song she was listening too while writing each poem. It gave me an extra depth of understanding to each poem and where the authors head was at the time.
All in all, I really loved this collection. It is beautiful and moving. It has really stuck with me. I will 100% be looking into Cook’s other works!
