Book Review: I Hope That This Reaches Her In Time by R. H. Sin

Hey Guys!

Another week has been and gone, so that means that it is time for another book review! this week it is actually the turn of another poetry collection. So, without any further ado, here is my review for I Hope This Reaches Her In Time by R. H. Sin. Let’s do this!

Urgh, I don’t know how I feel about this collection. I didn’t really like it. this is the first poetry collection that I have read recently that I haven’t enjoyed. I am really disappointed if I am completely honest with you. I was fully expecting to like this collection!

I think my issue with this collection if that it had no feeling. None of the poems in it made me sit back and think. In all honesty, none of them even made me really pause. Everything just felt a bit shallow and lacklustre in my opinion. I honestly can’t quiet put my finger on what it was about this collection that I didn’t enjoy, there was just something missing from it. something didn’t quite right. All of the poems just felt a little bit…I don’t know…off. a bit disjointed. I feel like it was all just lacking in emotion a little bit. The poems felt flat and a bit hollow. The whole time that I was reading this collection I found myself searching for some real emotion in each poem and coming up short, because there wasn’t any. And that really sucked. The poems felt forced and fake and shallow.

Honestly, this collection felt like it was trying to be like Rupi Kaur and failing, miserably. This book reads like someone trying to write deep, hard-hitting, personal poetry about things that they have never actually experienced first-hand. I don’t know if this is the case, but it is how it reads, and I think that this is why this book feels so disjointed. And after reading a few peoples reviews on this book, I can see that I am not the only one who feels way. This collection has some very negative reviews. I had zero connection to this book and honestly forgot everything that I had read the second I put it down. I think I only tabbed about 4 or 5 pages, which is unheard of for me and poetry as I tab if I like the overall poem, the message or even just a specific line.

Overall, I was pretty disappointed in this collection. I went into it fully expecting to like and enjoy it and I just didn’t. It really wasn’t a collection for me.

  1. Poetry is one of the toughest genres to review. I love it for that though, how everyone can have such a huge range in their experience of it! Oddly, I’m actually curious to pick this up now and see if I agree with you, or if I find some depth to it. Either way, love the review. Negative ones are helpful too!

    1. I’m glad that you liked the review! I think that it is so important to always give honest opinions in reviews, even if it means that it is negative. I am really curious to know if other people had a similar experience with this book. Poetry is so subjective, I love how different everyone’s opinions on it can be! Let me know if you do read this collection, I would love to know what you think of it 😀
