Since we are half way through the year I thought that it was about time that I did the Mid-Year Freak-out Book Tag again! (originally by Chami (ReadLikeWildFire) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03gz6… and Ely (elyjayne / Early Grey Books) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_Wh0…) I did this tag last year and I absolutely loved it. I love having it to look back on, so I am doing it again. Also, I won’t be tagging anyone to do it, just because I hate the idea of someone feeling pressured into doing a tag just because they have been tagged by someone, but if you want to do it, consider yourself tagged. But anyway, let’s get to the tag.
What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2019?
I’ve read some great books already this year but I think that my favourite has to be High-Rise by J G Ballard. It is an incredible book that I read on a complete whim and absolutely loved! It is so dark and twisted and, frankly, shocking. It is just an incredibly gripping book that everyone should read! I read it in just one sitting!
What has been your favourite sequel of the first half of the year?
The Wicked King by Holly Black. Hands down! I wold actually wager that it is better than the first book! it is a truly brilliant sequel and I cannot wait for the next book. I am so glad that its release date has been brought forward!
Is there a new release that you haven’t read yet but you’re really excited to?
I’ve been pretty damn bad at reading new releases this year, but probably the one that I am most excited for, that I even own, and haven’t read yet, is Red Scrolls Of Magic by Cassandra Clare. I honestly don’t know why I haven’t read it yet.
What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
Definitely Queen Of Nothing by Holly Black. I was already so excited for this book and then they brought the release date forward and I am now even more excited. I need it now!
What is your biggest disappointment so far?
For this I am doing to go for the book that I actually ended up DNFing and that is Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I was fully expecting to love this book and I ended up completely hating it. I couldn’t even get through the whole thing. It was dull and boring and I just did not like it. I was very disappointed by this book.
What is your biggest surprise so far?
I’ve read several books so far this year that have really taken me by surprised (High-Rise for instance) but I think the biggest surprise for me was probably This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Key. I picked it up on a whim, its nonfiction, which I don’t read, but I actually ended up loving it. it read it in one sitting. I laughed, I cried, I loved it. a truly brilliant book.
What is your favourite new to you or debut author?
I actually haven’t really read many new to me/debut authors. And the few that I have, I haven’t really liked their books or I have already spoken about them in this post (I try not to talk about the same book/author more than once in a book tag). The only real exception is Rupi Kaur. I read Milk and Honey at the start of the year and freaking loved it. I am currently reading her other collection and I am really enjoying that too.
What is your favourite fictional crush from this year?
It’s got to be Cardan for The Cruel Prince/Wicked King. He is a fantastic character and I kind of love him a little bit. Yes, he is kind of bad but he is also kind of good and I would like to keep him.
Who is your new favourite character?
I have actually loved loads of character this year, the top two have got to be Cinder from, well, Cinder by Marissa Meyer and Kaz from Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Both are such incredible characters and I love them both so much. They are both complex and complicated and I honestly cannot wait to read more about them.
A book that made you cry?
Not a lot of books have made me cry this year. Like at all. I think I am becoming more and more heartless each year. But one book that I do remember crying at was Daisy Jones And The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Right at the end when the sad thing happened. But I don’t know if that was so much my reaction to the event (since I wasn’t massively invested in the story) or that I was a bit emotional that day…. I think it was the latter…. I had been up since 5 am that day….
A book that made you happy?
A book that made me really happy was actually Cress by Marissa Meyer. I found myself smiling the whole way through that book. it was just sweet and funny while also being packed full of drama and adventure and hardship. Throne in that boo was just too adorably hilarious.
Your favourite book to movie/tv show that you’ve seen so far?
This is, hands down, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I binge watched the TV adaptation and completely loved it. so much so that I went out and brought the book, and then read that in about 2 sittings. I loved it. it is such a great story and the adaption is fucking brilliant. if you haven’t watched this show already, you need to!
What is your favourite post that you have written so far this year?
I actually really struggled with this one but a post that I did really love this year is my Book Shelf Tour post. Mainly because it is something that I have been wanting to do for years, ever since I first started this blog and I am just happy that I am finally happy enough with my shelves to do it: D
What is the most beautiful book that you have bought?
Finale by Stephanie Garber. It is a sunning book made even better by the fact that I got the Waterstones exclusive edition with sprayed red edges. Absolutely spectacular and I love it. so pretty.
What are 6 books that you want to read by the end of the year?
Hopefully I will get to Aurora Rising, Crooked Kingdom, The Near Witch, Lord Of Shadows, Godsgrave and Winter. But there are so many more that I would love to read. it is mainly sequels that I want to read this year.
And there we have it. that was my Mid-Year Freak-out Book Tag. As I said at the start, I’m not going to tag anyone specific but if you want to give this tag a go, go for it. I would love to see it. what had been your favourite book of the year so far? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
