Book Review: Everless by Sara Holland

Hey Guys!

Its Sunday, I’m sick, and its time for a book review. this time it is all about a book that has been sitting on my TBR pile for over a year, Everless by Sara Holland let’s do this!

This book was incredibly weird. I spent most of the first half of it being super confused and honestly, a little bit bored. It’s not that it is a bad book, it just didn’t really feel like anything new…

For me this book just didn’t really feel like a new and exciting story. so many elements of it reminded me of other books that I have already read. it just felt like a mash up of several stories. I could see elements of Red Queen, The Sin Eaters Daughter, even some elements of The Selection. Everless just didn’t feel like a fresh new story to me. Which kind of sucked as I had really high hopes for this book. I just don’t know what it was about this book. the whole time I was reading it I just kept finding myself thinking of other books and different stories. I am really curious as to if I was the only one that felt this way about this book.

Not only did I find that the story was unoriginal, I also found it a bit predictable. None of the major plot twists really took me by surprise and I don’t know if that was because I felt like I had read the story before or because it was just predictable, what I do know is that I wasn’t surprised by anything that happened in this book. I did also find the whole blood element of this story incredibly confusing for the first 100 pages or so. I just didn’t find that it was well explained. It took me a long while to actually get my head around the whole system. Which is unusual for me. I usually understand things like that very quickly.

If I ignore the predictable and unoriginal nature of this book, I did enjoy it. it was well pretty well written and wasn’t unpleasant to read. I did find that it dragged a bit at times, but it wasn’t bad. I didn’t hate the storylines and I actually didn’t mind the characters too much. I actually quiet liked Jules, although she could be a bit irritating at times. I am kind of interested to see what happens in the sequel to this book, purely to see if it becomes a bit more original. I am intrigued to see what will happen in the series.

All in all, I didn’t hate this book, but I didn’t love it either. If you are looking for a ground-breaking, new fantasy book, this one probably isn’t for you, but if you are after anything else, you will enjoy this book.
