It is time for another Book’s That I Am Excited for! Whoop, whoop! in case you haven’t seen one of these posts before, it is essentially me talking about the upcoming book releases that I am particularly excited for. I make one of these posts every 3 months, talking all about the books coming out within the next three months. So, here are the books that I am excited for, that are due for release any time between January 1st and March 31st. Let’s do this!
The Wicked King by Holly Black – 8th January
I have heard that for mortals, the feeling of falling in love is very like the feeling of fear.
Jude has tricked Cardan onto the throne, binding him to her for a year and a day. But the new High King does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her, even as his fascination with her remains undimmed.
Meanwhile, a traitor in the court is scheming against her. Jude must fight for her life and the lives of those she loves, all while battling her own complicated feelings for Cardan. Now a year and a day seems like no time at all . . .
I only read the first book in this series a few months ago but I completely fell in love with it and have been hotly anticipating its sequel ever since. I have actually already got myself a copy of this one (I brought it on release day) and I am already reading it and loving it! I am so bloody excited!
A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Bridget Kemmerer – January 29th
Fall in love, break the curse.
Break the curse, save the kingdom.
Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall, is cursed. Forced to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he can only be freed by love. But at the end of each autumn he is transformed into a beast hell-bent on destruction, and after so many failed attempts, his kingdom and its people are barely holding on.
Harper’s life has never been easy, but she’s learned to be tough enough to survive. She won’t let anything hold her back, not her cerebral palsy or her mother’s deteriorating health. But when she is sucked into Rhen’s world, nothing is as it seems. Powerful forces are standing against Emberfalll … and it will take more than a broken curse to save it from utter ruin.
I have been seeing this book everywhere for months. It is constantly all over bookstagram and booktube. And it had definitely picked my interest. This book sounds like it is going to a brilliant story and I am really excited to get my hands on it!
King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo – January 29th
Face your demons . . . or feed them.
Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war – and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army.
Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha Squaller, Nikolai will journey to the places in Ravka where the deepest magic survives to vanquish the terrible legacy inside him. He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren’t meant to stay buried–and some wounds aren’t meant to heal.
I read the Grisha trilogy last year (and am hoping to read the Six Of Crows duology very soon) and I fell completely in love with Nikolai. He is just such a great characters and I am so excited that he is getting his own spin off! I cannot wait to read this book and rediscover my love for him!
On the Come Up by Angie Thomas – February 7th
The award-winning author of The Hate U Give returns with a powerful story about hip hop, freedom of speech – and fighting for your dreams, even as the odds are stacked against you.
Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. As the daughter of an underground hip hop legend who died right before he hit big, Bri’s got massive shoes to fill. But when her first song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, Bri finds herself at the centre of controversy and portrayed by the media as more menace than MC. And with an eviction notice staring her family down, Bri no longer just wants to make it – she has to. Even if it means becoming the very thing the public has made her out to be
I cannot wait for this book. I read The Hate U Give two years ago now, not long after it came out and I loved it. It was just such an intense and powerful novel. One of those books that everyone needs to read in their lifetimes. And I have been hotly anticipating Angie Thomas’ follow up ever since. It may have taken longer than expected to arrive, but I am so excited that it is nearly here!
War Storm by Victoria Averyard – February 21st
VICTORY COMES AT A PRICE.
Mare Barrow learned this all too well when Cal’s betrayal nearly destroyed her. Now determined to protect her heart-and secure freedom for Reds and newbloods like her-Mare resolves to overthrow the kingdom of Norta once and for all . . . starting with the crown on Maven’s head.
But no battle is won alone, and before the Reds may rise as one, Mare must side with the boy who broke her heart in order to defeat the boy who almost broke her. Cal’s powerful Silver allies, alongside Mare and the Scarlet Guard, prove a formidable force. But Maven is driven by an obsession so deep, he will stop at nothing to have Mare as his own again, even if it means demolish everything – and everyone – in his path.
War is coming, and all Mare has fought for hangs in the balance. Will victory be enough to topple the Silver kingdoms? Or will the little lightning girl be forever silenced?
In the epic conclusion to Victoria Aveyard’s stunning series, Mare must embrace her fate and summon all her power . . . For all will be tested, but not all will survive.
If you follow me you will know that I have very mixed feelings about the Red Queen series as a whole, but I am looking forward to closing this series out and finally deciding how I feel about it all. I know this book actually came out last year, but I have yet to get myself a copy as it didn’t come out standard size in the UK. Actually, I think they released it in hardback this time (which is fucking stupid since the other three books where only ever available in paperback) but I will finally be able to buy it and finish this series.
Shades of Magic Volume 1: The Steel Prince by V E Schwab – March 5th
All-new deluxe edition of an out-of-print gem, containing in-universe short story “The Ash-Born Boy” and a never-before-seen introduction from V.E. Schwab.
The Near Witch is only an old story told to frighten children.
If the wind calls at night, you must not listen. The wind is lonely, and always looking for company.
There are no strangers in the town of Near.
These are the truths that Lexi has heard all her life.
But when an actual stranger, a boy who seems to fade like smoke, appears outside her home on the moor at night, she knows that at least one of these sayings is no longer true.
The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion.
As the hunt for the children intensifies, so does Lexi’s need to know about the witch that just might be more than a bedtime story, about the wind that seems to speak through the walls at night, and about the history of this nameless boy.
Part fairy tale, part love story, Victoria Schwab’s debut novel is entirely original yet achingly familiar: a song you heard long ago, a whisper carried by the wind, and a dream you won’t soon forget.
It’s a prequel to one of my all-time favourite book series. need I say more?!? the sooner I have this comic in my hands, the better!!!!
