It is Saturday, and you know what that means, its book review time! This time it is the turn of The Lost Sisters by Holly Black. Let’s do this!
This little novella is not at all what I was expecting, but I didn’t hate it. It just took me by surprise a bit. I wasn’t sure what I thought this novella was going to be, but I do know that this was quiet it.
Don’t get me wrong, I did really enjoy it. and I felt like it acted as a really great little refresher before I pick up The Wicked King. It definitely helped me to remember all the small details that happened in The Cruel Prince. I was just taken by surprise by the way this story was told. I wasn’t expecting it to be Taryn talking to Jude (sort off). It was being addressed directly that threw me. And it took me a few pages to get used to it. I don’t often read books where the narrator is addressing you directly and so it took me a while to get back into that style. It just wasn’t what I was expecting.
But besides that, I really enjoyed the actual story. it was really nice to see the side of the story that you don’t get to see in The Cruel Prince. I have been so curious as to how the whole Taryn-Locke thing came about. It was a pretty big plot twist in Cruel Prince and so finding out how it all came to be was really nice. It definitely helped to expand the story in my opinion. I also liked that we did get it from Taryn. Hearing it all from her started to give me a much better understanding of her as a character. I am really intrigued to see the role she is going to play in the rest of the series now. I am suddenly very suspicious of her and her motives. And Locke’s for that matter.
All in all, I think that this is such a great little edition to the series, even if it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. I am glad that I decided to read it before picking up The Wicked King
