My Top 10 Books Of 2018

Hey Guys!

We are over a week into 2019 and I think that means that I should really wrap up last year and tell you what my favourite books of 2018 where. So, here are my top 10 reads of last year! (these are in no particular order)

History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

This is a heart-breaking story about losing a loved one and finding yourself. This story follows Griffin, a 17-year-old with sever obsessive compulsive disorder and anxiety, as he tries to come to terms with the death of his first love. This is such a moving story that will leave you completely heartbroken. It handles mental illness brilliantly and also contains LGTBQA+ representation. This is such a fantastic little book. if you are looking for an incredible mental health book, then you need to pick this one up.

Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda y Becky Albertalli

Need I explain this one? This book is amazing. It follows Simon, a gay teenager who has yet to come up. you follow him as he falls in love with his anonymous pen pal Blue, gets blackmailed and comes out. this is a brilliant book full of amazing characters. You can’t help but fall in love with this story. it is deep and meaningful with a lot of really important messages, but it is also really funny and honest and relatable. Everything in it feels so damn genuine. Becky Albertalli is fast becoming one of my all-time favourite authors.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

This book is incredible. It is the first in the latest trilogy based in Clare’s Shadowhunter world. It follows Emma Carstairs and the Blackthorn family as they investigate a spree of murders in LA and try to catch the culprit. It is so full of love and heartache and so many emotions. I cried several times while reading this book and I am so glad that I have finally picked up this new trilogy. If you like Cassandra Clare, you need to read this book.

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

This book is incredible. In it you follow 16-year-old Mia Corvere as she joins in the Red Church in order to become an assassin. This book is full of mystery and murder but it also funny and has really sweet moments and is, frankly, just epic. It has everything that you could ever want in a book and more. it is the perfect book to just lose yourself in! although I would recommend listing to the audiobook. It is amazing.

State Of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury

This is the first book in a new duology by the author of The Sin Eaters Daughter, and it is brilliant. this story follows 17-year-old Sorrow as she finds herself trying to fix the country which her father broke. All the while trying to figure out what those around her aren’t telling her and trying to uncover the secrets of an imposter. This is a brilliant read. such a complex story, but also really easy to read. you will be hooked from the first page.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

If you are after a cute contemporary, then this is the book for you. I whizzed through this book, I could not put it down. It follows 17-year-old Lara Jean as a box of love letters that she has written over the years somehow get sent out. You watch as she tries to figure out what to do and falls in love with someone that she never expected too. This is just such a sweet story, I found myself smiling the whole time that I was reading it. it is the perfect book to read at this time of year, it just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

Welcome to the paranormal world. This is a four-part series that follows a group of friends as they try to find and wake a long dead, and lost, welsh king. The story revolves around ghosts and lay lines, magic and psychics. It is a stunning series and is well worth a read. the writing is almost lyrical, the characters are brilliant and the storylines are so interesting. I read the first book at the end of last 2017 and loved it and read the remaining 3 books in 2018 and really enjoyed all of them too. All of them, except Blue Lily, Lily Blue were 5 star reads!

Illuminae Files by Amie Kauffman And Jay Kristoff

This trilogy is freaking incredible. Told through transcripts, data extracts, CCTV footage analysis and the likes you follow the story of Kady Grant, Ezra Mason, Hanna Donnelly, Nik Malikov, Ella Malikov, Asher Grant, Jackson Merrick and the Alexandra/Hypatia/Copernicus fleet as they flee from Kernza IV after BioTech attack. This is a high stake, action packed space adventure full of drama and jeopardy but also love and friendship and sassy teenagers. I was completely taken by surprise with this series. I absolutely loved it. it is just so damn good. well worth all the hype!

Vengeful by V E Schwab

This is the long awaited sequel to V E Schwab’s incredible, Vicious. I read Vicious in 2017 and loved it and I ended up completely loving Vengeful as well. it was just as action packed and violent and just amazing as the first book. this story follows a group of EO’s (think X-men) as they struggle to survive in a world that it out to get them. if you haven’t read this series, you need to! it is dark but funny, violent but incredible. it has got to be one of my all-time favourite!

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Set in the same world as The Darkest Part Of The Forest, this book follows Jude, a human living in faerie, as she fights to earn to her place in a world she doesn’t belong in. this is a brilliant book, I loved it nearly as much as The Darkest Part Of The Forest. It holds everything that I loved about that book and more. I am incredibly excited to read The Wicked King!

And there we have it. those are my top 10 books of 2018. And yes, I did cheat a little bit and include a couple of full series. fight me :’D What where your favourite books of 2018?
