Book Review: Father Christmas And Me by Matt Haig

Hey Guys!

Welcome to day one of Blogmas! I am so excited that we are finally here! and I hope that you are too! Today I am kicking it off with my first festive book review of the year! Today’s book is Father Christmas And Me by Matt Haig. So let’s do this!

I am so sad that this is the last instalment of this series. It is something of a tradition to read one of Matt Haig’s books during Blogmas. For the last couple of years, I have read the latest instalment in this series, and I’m sad that this is going to be the last year of that. although, I will admit, I didn’t love this final instalment.

The first two books in this trilogy where really good. the first was the best, but the second book was really good as well. they were full of magic and hope and where just so damn Christmassy. They instantly put me in a festive mood. But this final book didn’t have the same feel to it. it just didn’t really feel like a Christmas book, not like the other two did. it still held the adventure and magic that I associate with this story, but that was about it. it just didn’t leave me feeling at all festive. Whereas Christmas was the focal point of the previous two books, it just seemed to be something crammed into the end of this book for the sake of it. which was disappointing.

I can’t even put my finger on what exactly it was that made this book feel so different to the first two. It just didn’t. a part of me feels like Haig should have left it at the second book. we had enough closure, the story was pretty well wrapped up at the end of the previous book, I just don’t feel like this addition was really needed. It just felt a bit repetitive and like it was rethatching the same story again. It just wasn’t what I wanted.

Over all I was just disappointed by this book. it just didn’t live up to its predecessors

And there we go. Bit disappointed by the first Christmas book of this year, but, what can you do? have you read this trilogy? what did you think about the final book? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again tomorrow.
