It is Sunday and you know what that means, it is time for another book review, and this week it is the turn of one of my favourite authors, V E Schwab. So, without further ado, here is my review for This Savage Song.
This book has been on my TBR list for ages. I have wanted to pick this book up ever since I first read A Darker Shade Of Magic. it just sounded so intriguing and I had heard such good things about it. and it was really good.
I will be 100% honest and say that I didn’t love this book quiet as much as everyone else seems too, but I did really enjoy it. it was such an unusual story. I am forever awed by Schwab’s imagination and her ability to conjure up all of these incredible worlds and stories. No two are the same. it is just amazing. I don’t think I have ever encounter an author quiet like her! this has got to be the darkest world of hers that I have read yet. It is so interesting.
I am really intrigued by the whole ‘monsters’ phenomenon. There is so much I want to know about them. they are all such complex creatures and I feel that we only just brushed the surface of them. I am particularly intrigued by the Sunai. Considering that they are a huge part of this book, you don’t actually get to know that much about them. there is so much stuff about them that we haven’t been told and that I am just itching to know. I am really intrigued to read Our Dark Duet, just see if we find out more about these fascinating monsters.
I did also really like the characters in this book. I love August and Kate. And I love their relationship. There is a hint of potential romance between them, but none is really explored in this book. This book focuses on them as individuals and their joint goals. And I really liked that. I am glad that this book did focused on them as people and not just force them as a couple on us. They are both such complex and interesting characters and I really enjoyed reading about them both. I just think that they both have so much interesting back story that we have only just scratched the surface off, and they both hold so much potential.
All in all, I did really enjoy this book. I don’t think that I loved it quiet as much as other people seem too, but it was good. I feel like this is a book that I would enjoy more a second time around, but I am excited to read Our Dark Duet very soon.
