One of the first Top Reads posts that I ever made was for my Top Middle Grade Reads. Well, since that was over a year and a half ago, I thought that it was about time that I made another one, especially seeing’s as I have read a lot more middle grades since then. I won’t be including any of the books that I put in the first post in this updated version, but in case you are interested in it, I will leave the link to that previous post at the end. So, let’s do this!
Nevermore: The Trails Of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend
This is a fantastic middle grade full of magic and mystery. You follow 11-year-old Morrigan as she is unexpectedly thrown into a world full of wonder. The book spans the course of a year in her life as she adjusts to her new life, starts to learn about herself and competes in The Trials. This is a great book, and a fantastic audiobook, that is perfect for this time of year. It is just so gripping and brilliant
The Wizards Of Once by Cressida Cowell
This is a really unusual middle grade by the author of the How To Train Your Dragon series. This book follows a pair of kids as they are thrown into an unexpected and epic adventure. This is a book about wizards and warriors, magic and mayhem. I read this book in one sitting and really enjoyed it. it is on the younger end of middle grade but is a really enjoyable read. plus, the audiobook is read my David Tennant, so it is well worth a listen.
Heroes Of Olympus by Rick Riordan
I know that I have mentioned this series in a previous loads of times, but it needs to be in this post as well. This series is amazing. It follows on from the original Percy Jackson books but has a whole host of new characters and a completely new storyline. I would go as far as to say it is better than the original series. It is darker and more complex. The story follows the group as they battle their way across the world trying to unite their friends and prevent the goddess Gia from waking and destroying the world. This series is absolutely incredible; you will want to marathon the books. It is the perfect series to escape into.
Matilda by Roald Dahl
I recently reread this book and fell in love with it all over again. This is such a unique little story. It is a lot darker then I remember it being but is also so sweet and full of magic and wonder. I absolutely adored it. If you have made it this far in life without picking up Matilda, then you need to rectify that asap! This is such a good book
Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo
This is a stunning book. I read it for the first time when I was about 10 or 11 and then reread it last year and it is honestly amazing. It focuses on a young boy who finds himself shipwrecked on a desert island. The book follows his struggles to survive and find a way home. This is a beautiful story full of drama and love, determination and unlikely friendships. Morpurgo is the king of heart wrenching stories.
And there we go. Those are my top middle grade reads. If you want to read my original middle grade post here is a link to it (Top Middle Grade Reads). what are some of your favourite middle grades? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
