Book Review: Linger by Maggie Stiefvater

Hey Guys!

It’s bonus book review time! Whoop, Whoop! I am super ahead of myself with reviews, so have 2 in 1 day! this time I am returning to The Wolves Of Mercy Falls and rereading Linger by Maggie Stiefvater. Let’s do this.

Well this book was exactly how I remember. Kind of crap. And I am not saying that to be mean, it is kind of crap. It just wasn’t a very good book.

This trilogy is very much a product of the Twilight era. I constantly see so many parallels between the two series and I think that that is this trilogies downfall. It is trying too hard to be the next Twilight and not being its own story. because let’s be honest, this could be a brilliant story. with the wolves and the humans, with the pain and the loss and the happy summer days. It could be this really dark and twisted story full of anguish and pain. It could be brilliant. but it isn’t. it is way too focused on Grace and Sam and their love story. this trilogy is basically just a romance book with a supernatural twist, instead of a supernatural book with a romance in it.

And it isn’t even the best romance. In fact, it is a bit flat. Grace and Sam had major insta-love in the first book and it means that they never got to develop as a couple so their whole relationship feels false and a bit disjointed. It doesn’t feel genuine or at all real. which is such a shame since they are the whole focus of the story. they are also two of the dullest most self-ordinated characters I have ever met. All they do is moan, brood and swoon over each other. There is just no depth to them. at all. The secondary characters, who get very little page time, are far, far more interesting. Like Isabelle, Cole and even Beck. At least they feel genuine.

Besides the flat characters and dull romance, the storylines in this second book just weren’t good. The story in the first book was a bit dicey but it got worse in Linger. Everything just because even more confusing. And all of the plot twists became even more predictable. And frankly, this book was boring. I listened to the audiobook this time around (like I did with Shiver) and I honestly nearly fell asleep as few times. It was so flipping dull!

I will read the final book, mainly because I have never read it and am at least a little bit curious, although, unsurprisingly, I am 99.9% sure I know how it will end. And also because I want to read the spin off, companion novel, Sinner (which is based around Isabelle and Cole)

star 22 out of 5

And there we have it. have you ever read The Wolves Of Mercy Falls? What did you think about it? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
