I spend most of my life taking about books that I love, so today I wanted to do the opposite. Today I am going to be talking about books that everyone else seems to love, but that I don’t.
I read a lot of books and that means that I read a lot of very popular books this inevitably means that I won’t love every book that I read. so today I thought that I would take this opportunity to talk about some of the popular books that I don’t like and why. obviously, these are just my personal opinions. If one of these books is one of your favourites, I am not trying to offend you. We are all entitled to our own opinions and feelings. Disclaimer over. So, without further ado, these are some very popular books that I don’t love.
The Young Elites by Marie Lu
I read this whole trilogy last year and had very mixed feelings about it. I loved the first book I read it all in on sitting and really enjoyed it. and then I made the mistake of reading the second book. and I really fucking hated it. it was just not good. I know that Adelina was supposed to be unlikable and brash and whatever, but I just could not stand her in the second book. I ended up hating her so much that I ended up hating the whole series. I read the final book to see if the series could redeem itself, and it couldn’t. I went from loving this trilogy, to hating it. which is such a shame since I loved the premise of this story. it could have been an all-time favourite, but it just wasn’t.
The One Memory Of Flora Bans by Emily Barr
This was a weird one. I loved the first third of this book but the more that I read, the less I liked it. it was such a brilliant concept for a book and it was pretty well done it was just too much. the story was too repetitive and just went too far. The story just got strange and unnecessary and just not good. I made it about half way through this book then just skimmed the rest. I wanted so much more from this book.
All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
This is another book that I wanted to love but didn’t. in fact, when I first started it, I did quiet like it. it is only as time has gone on that I have realised how little I actually like it. my main issue with it is that it is problematic. It didn’t handle the topic of depression and suicide very well. In fact, at times, it actually felt a little bit like it was glorifying it a bit. I just don’t feel like it was particularly well done. The mental illness just wasn’t handled all that well, there was a distinct lake of adult presence and I don’t know, I just wasn’t great.
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
I don’t hate this book, but I don’t love it either. This is a really beloved book in the YA community, but I don’t get why. I found this book incredibly slow and boring. I was well over halfway through it before I started to get into the story., and even then, I didn’t completely connect with it. I didn’t hate this book, not by any means. I just didn’t love it like everyone else seems to. I just found it very, meh.
Queen Of Hearts by Coleen Oaks
I have spoken about my dislike for this book a couple of times because my god, do I hate it. I wanted to love it, I really did I went into it with such high hopes and it well and truly shattered them. I hated this book so much that I actually ended up DNFing it, which is something that I never do. I just couldn’t force myself to read a single word more. I found it incredibly dull and the characters were very annoying. The main character drove me insane. She was just so fucking annoying and shallow and self-centred but also just very dim and unlikable. I made it about halfway through this book and then gave up. it is such a shame as I had really wanted to enjoy it.
Lying About Last Summer by Sue Wallman
This is a strange one. this book was very popular in the UK when it was first released and a lot of people love it. but I was very disappointed by it. this book was supposed to be a teen/ya thriller surrounding a teenage girl and the death of her sister, but it ended up completely falling slat. It ended up being a, not very good, standard contemporary. I was just incredibly disappointed by this book. I wanted so much more from it,
And there we have it. those are a few of the books that people love but I don’t. are there any popular books that you don’t like? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
