Book Review: Love And Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch

Hey Guys!

it’s book review time! And today I am crossing another book of my summer TBR! And that book is Love And Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch, lets do this!

I really liked this book. like really liked it. it was a lot different to what I was expecting but I really enjoyed it. I went into this book expecting a really light fluffy read, a bit like Anna And The French Kiss. And there are definitely similarities between the two stories, but I enjoyed Love And Gelato way more!

There was just so much more to this story. it was so much deeper and grittier then I was expecting and I really enjoyed it. you guys know me and know that I like my contemporary with a bit of bite to them, its why I usually pick up ones that deal with mental health or sexuality or family turmoil. I am not a big fan of fluffy romances. And so I was very pleased when I realised that there was much more going on in this book. don’t get me wrong, it was still very fluffy feeling at times, but it had such deep undertones. I really enjoyed the storyline of Lina trying to get to know her mother more and that we got to learn about her alongside. I will admit that I did predict all of the major plot twists, which usually happens or me with contemporary, but I still really enjoyed it.

This book was just very sweet. I found myself smiling so many times while reading it. I read about ¾ of this book in one sitting because I started to get really into it and was really enjoying the fact that it made me smile. I just couldn’t put it down. I was sat in my back garden at 1 am, curled up in a chair with this book, grinning to myself like an idiot. I couldn’t help it. there is just something about this book that lifts your mood and leaves you with this big smile on your face.

And I think that thing is the characters. particularly Ren. It just isn’t possible to be sad near him. you can’t help but smile every time he appears on the page. There is just something so true and pure about him. I loved him as a character. He is one of those characters that you wish that you had in your real life. But then I also kind of felt that way about Howard. He is such a good dad.

The one thing I will say though is this story is very short. It is set over the course of about 6 days, which is such a short amount of time considering how much happened in this book. and because it was so fast, the romance in it did have a bit of a insta-love feel to it. thankfully the couple did really work and I am so glad that they ended up together but still. It was a bit insta-love.

All in all, I did really enjoy this book. and there really wasn’t that much romance in it. I am really glad that I have finally read this book. I will 100% be picking up Love And Luck.

star 4.54.5 out of 5
