It is time for my favourite of my seasonal posts, my Spring Reads! If you don’t know what I mean by ‘seasonal posts’, essentially, each season I make a series of four posts, each one talking about a certain topic/thing within that season. So, summer photography, winter candles, autumn nails and so on. and today it is time for my Spring Reads. Here I will talk about some of the best books that I have read this spring, that I think are perfect for this time of year. It is a recommendations post of sorts. But you will see that soon enough. Let’s go!
State Of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury
This is the first book in a new duology by the author of The Sin Eaters Daughter, and it is brilliant. this story follows 17-year-old Sorrow as she finds herself trying to fix the country which her father broke. All the while trying to figure out what those around her aren’t telling her and trying to uncover the secrets of an imposter. This is a brilliant read. such a complex story, but also really easy to read. you will be hooked from the first page.
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman And Jay Kristoff
This book is freaking incredible. Told through transcripts, data extracts, CCTV footage analysis and the likes you follow the story of Kady Grant and the Alexandra/Hypatia/Copernicus fleet as they flee from Kernza IV after BioTech attack. This is a high stake, action packed space adventure full of drama and jeopardy but also love and friendship and sassy teenagers. I was completely taken by surprise with this book. I absolutely loved it. if you only read one book this spring, make it this one. it is just so damn good. well worth all the hype!
The Start Of Me And You by Emery Lord
This is the perfect book for this time of year. This story follows 16-year-old Paige as she starts to put her life back together, after the death of her first boyfriend. This is a really sweet story full of amazing friendships and hope for the future. I read this book in just two sittings and loved every second of it. if you are looking for a sweet contemporary with deep undertones then this is the book for you.
History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera
This is a heart breaking and heart-warming story about love and loss, grief and guilt. It follows teenager Griffin as his first love, Theo, suddenly dies. This book follows the aftermath of the tragedy. You watch Griffin grieving and trying to come to terms with what has happened, and eventually, move on. this book made me cry so many times, twice on the same train! But it also made me smile. This is such a brilliant little book that really touched my heart. You need to read it.
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
This story follows 17-year-old Juliette, a girl with the ability to kill with just a touch. This is an incredible book. it completely took me by surprise. The characters are amazing, the storylines really interesting, the world so different. the writing was also so good considering this was Mafi’s debut. Everything we thought we knew kept getting flipped on its head, then flipped again, you never knew who to trust and who to hate. It was just brilliant. I read this is 2 sittings, it is the perfect book to just curl up.
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
This book is incredible. It is the first in the latest trilogy based in Clare’s Shadowhunter world. It follows Emma Carstairs and the Blackthorn family as they investigate a spree of murders in LA and try to catch the culprit. It is so full of love and heartache and so many emotions. I cried several times while reading this book and I am so glad that I have finally picked up this new trilogy. If you like Cassandra Clare, you need to read this book.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
If you are after a cute contemporary, then this is the book for you. I whizzed through this book, I could not put it down. It follows 17-year-old Lara Jean as a box of love letters that she has written over the years somehow get sent out. You watch as she tries to figure out what to do and falls in love with someone that she never expected too. This is just such a sweet story, I found myself smiling the whole time that I was reading it. it is the perfect book to read at this time of year, it just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green
Is there anything better than an author you love releasing a new series? The Smoke Thieves is the first book in a new historical, slight fantasy, series by the author of the Half Bad trilogy. The story follows 5 characters as their lives all start to unravel and they slowly come together. This is a really interesting story told from all five perspectives. It is full of demons and friendships, love and betrayal, survival and war. All set in a complex world with a really rich backstory. I loved this book and I cannot wait for the sequel to come out.
Under Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall
This is a stunningly moving contemporary story that follows 17-year-old Norah, a girl with agoraphobia, OCD and generalized anxiety disorder. Throughout this book you watch her struggles and triumphs, her highs and her lows. This is just one of those stories that really stays with you. it is without a doubt the best portrayal of these conditions that I have ever read. such an incredibly amazing read. you need to read this book!
Leah On The Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
God I love Becky Albertalli. This book is a companion, sequel to Albertalli’s bestselling book, Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda, and it is freaking incredible. This book follows Simon’s best friend, Leah as she tries to figure out who she truly is and how to come out as bi-sexual. This is a sweet and funny book that you cannot help but fall in love with. if you haven’t read any of Albertalli’s books, you need to! they are all incredible and are perfect for this time of year.
And those are all of the books that I have been reading and loving recently. I seem to have read a lot of truly incredible books over the last couple of months. What books have you loved this spring? Any that I should check out? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
