Book Review: Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Hey Guys!

It is finally the weekend! Whoop, whoop! That means that it is time for a book review! and this week, it is a good one. I have finally picked up the first book in the Dark Artifices trilogy by Cassandra Clare! So, without further ado, here is my review for Lady Midnight…

Well, Clare has maintained her position as the only author who has made me cry with every single one of her books. I mean, I was crying by the second chapter! This is why I love Cassandra Clare so much. she makes you feel so many emotions all of the time!

Besides, maybe, Clockwork Princess, I think that Lady Midnight was the most emotional of any of the books in the Shadowhunter Chronicles. There where so many times when I was close to tears while reading this book. there was just so much heartache and pain. That poor family have been through so much, damn it! I just want to hug them and never let them go! My heart hurt for them the whole time that I was reading Lady Midnight. It made me feel so much. every time that I pick up one of Cassandra Clare’s books I know that I am going to fall in love and have my heart broken. It has happened with every single one of her books and it is something that I love. I adore how much she makes me feel. And I love that one moment she will have me laughing, the next full on, ugly, sobbing. I cannot think of a single other series that does this to me. I am always an emotional wreck by the end of her books.

And this story was no exception. I can see why some people didn’t like this one as much as her previous books. It is very relationship heavy and it doesn’t feel quiet as high staked as, say, City Of Heavenly Fire. But personally I still really enjoyed it. I really loved diving into the family side of the Shadowhunter world and also seeing a more investigative approach to the story. It meant that the world stayed fresh and exciting. It really kept the story moving. I was amazed at how quickly I got through this one since it is fucking huge (it’s a 20-hour audiobook, but felt like half that). this story just dived straight in. within a chapter we were right into the action and the drama. And it didn’t stop. There was so much going on and so many revelations, right up until the last page. There where so many twists that I just didn’t expect. I was completely stunned so many time.

But I think what I loved most about this book were the Blackthorns (and I am including Emma and Christina in the Blackthorn category). They are just such a wonderful group of people. Each person has such a unique personality. you can just instantly understand why this character reacts with way and why this one does this. You feel like you know them because of how real they feel. But it is also because of the way that they are together. You can see how much they all care for each other. You can see that they would all do anything and everything to protect one another. And I really love that. it makes you want to be friends with them. And also on the note of characters, I loved that we got to see so many of our old friends. I mean, we got, Magnus, Jace, Clary, Tessa, Malcom Fade and my one true love Jem (might have nearly cried when he appeared). I loved this. It really helped to ground this book and tie it into the rest of the Shadowhunter Chronical world.

All in all, I am so happy that I finally picked up Lady Midnight. Already I am itching to read Lord Of Shadows. Such an incredible start to what is bound to be an amazing trilogy.
