Book Review: Opal by Maggie Stiefvater

Hey Guys!

It is bonus book review time! What! I have been doing loads of these recently! Anywho, today’s review is for a novella based in the Raven Cycle universe. Yep, today it is all about Opal by Maggie Stiefvater. Let’s go.

I stumbled across this little novella by accident a few weeks ago when I was listing The Raven King as a currently reading book on Goodreads. I had never heard of this novella, never seen anyone talking about, I didn’t even know that it existed. So naturally, I looked it up and then brought it. last week I finished the Raven King and decided to read Opal, which is set after it.

I was really surprised by this novella. It was only 40 pages long but Stiefvater packed so much into those 40 pages. This little story has really set us up for the Ronan trilogy that we are getting at some point in the future. the story is from orphan girl’s POV and follows Ronan and Adam over the summer after the events in The Raven King. It really delves into the dream side of the world. I was honestly so surprised by this novella. It just felt so much longer than it actually was. You got to experience so much. At one point I was nearly crying. It actually gave me feels! That never fucking happens with novellas!

I really liked this little story. It tied up a few loose ends left over from the Raven King, gave us some adorable Pynch moments and it honestly just made me really want the dreamer trilogy right now. Seriously Stiefvater! How long are you going to keep us hanging?!?! All in all, this was a truly brilliant novella and I am so thankful that I stumbled across it. If you are a fan of The Raven Cycle, you need to read this story!
