It book review time! I just wanted to take a moment to say a quick thank you for last week. Everyone was really kind and understanding about me not posting a review. It was really hard for me to admit that I wouldn’t get a book finished in time (didn’t manage to finish anything until Wednesday) so I really appreciate everyone being so nice about it. (btw, I am feeling much better now). Anyway, let’s get to today’s review. today it is all about The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater. Let’s do this!
I am so gutted that this series is over! But this was such a brilliant conclusion to the series. I loved every second of it. I really took my time with this book, mainly because I didn’t want the story to end, but I wanted to devour it all in one sitting!
This series has well and truly made me fall in love with Stiefvater. I am so glad that I decided to pick up these books and give them a go. They are so damn good! This is just such an incredible story. It is such a simple concept, four teenagers on a quest to find a dead welsh king, but Stiefvater has woven such an incredible and complex story. I will admit that going into this book I was so worried about how it would end. I was so terrified that it would be anticlimactic or overly dramatic, but it wasn’t. personally, I think that it was a really good end to the story. We got to see the full story at last. Throughout this whole series you could see that you weren’t quiet getting the whole picture and in this book we finally did. We got to see everything and understand it all. I loved the ‘depending on where you began the story, it was about…’ . it was just so perfect. It meant that we got to see each person’s role in the story, even people we didn’t know where involved. It was just so brilliant. I also loved the way it ended with Ronan. It felt like the story had come full circle. It has also made me so excited for the trilogy surrounding him that we are supposedly getting at some point, hopefully soon. I need more of the world in my life.
These books just kept me guessing right up to the last page. It is weird because you always kind of knew what the outcome is going to be. I mean you are basically told what is going to happen within the first chapter of the first book, but still, you don’t know. Right up until the end I was still wondering how. How it was going to happen, when, why. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I was still so surprised when it did happen. Throughout this whole series I have been wondering how it would happen. And the whole series has been leading up to it. And I loved that. I loved the fact that Stiefvater told us what was going to happen and yet I was still so shocked when it did actually happen (sorry, being vague to avoid spoilers).
As I have read these books I have fallen completely in love with these characters. and more importantly, their friendship. Yes, there are romances and relationships, but it is the groups friendship and commitment to each other that is really the focus. I want to be friends with them. I want to save the planet with Blue, I want to dream with Ronan, be a king with Gansey, believe with Adam, save Noah. I just want to know them. it has been a long time since I read a book that left me this wanting. I want these characters to be real. I will admit that I am not sure how I feel about the edition of Henry to their group. I like him enough, but I feel like it was a bit sudden and I wasn’t given enough time to connect to him, but that might just be me.
Overall I am so glad that I decided to give Stiefvater a second chance (I read the Wolves Of Mercy Falls back in the day and it was not a positive experience). This series has instantly become one of my all-time favourites. I will admit that I am not sure how I feel about the epilogue. I feel like it would have maybe worked better without it. It felt a bit too much like Stiefvater was trying to wrap everything up. And there are still a few things that weren’t. For instance, Mr Grey and Mora, what happened there? Artemis? There are just a few too many loose ends. But it is such a minor complaint. That is mainly just me liking to know what is happening.
If you haven’t read these books yet, you need to. you will not regret it for a second. I don’t know a single person who has read these books and not loved them
5 out of 5
And there we go. I would as recommend the audiobooks for these. You will need to listen to them at a much higher speed then normal (the narrator has a very slow voice) but they are so good. just incredible. have you read this amazing series yet? What do you think about it? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
