Book Review: The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell

Hey Guys!

Its book review time! Today it is the turn of a middle grade book. Yep, today it is all about The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell. Let’s go!

I did not enjoy this book. In fact, in the interest of honesty, I actually ended up DNFing it after just over 100 pages, and I so rarely DNF books. But I just could not force myself to read any more. I just could not get into it at all.

It took me nearly a month to get to the 100-page mark as I was just so bored while reading it. In the 100 pages that I read I swear nothing happened. At all. Usually I can get through middle grades in just a couple of hours, but I just couldn’t with this one. It got to the stage where it was actually starting to put me into a reading slump.

But the thing is I’m not actually sure if it is the books fault. I think it is me. I personally just couldn’t get into it. I loved the concept of this book I just didn’t get on with the way that it was being told. Which was such a shame. I had such high hopes for this book and it just fell short for me. I really wish that I had loved it more and was able to write a glowing review for it, but I would just be lying to you.

Not only did I struggle with the story, I didn’t get the characters either. I found them to be very flat and unrealistic. I liked elements of them, like Feodora, I liked her affinity with the wolves and her unyielding trust in them, but at the same time I found her to be not feel her age, if that makes sense. She was somehow both younger then she should have been for her age, and also way to old. It just didn’t work in my opinion. And I didn’t like the lack of parental supervision. Again, it felt very unrealistic.

I hate to give bad reviews but I honestly hated this book. I was so bored and so underwhelmed by it. it just wasn’t as good as I was hoping that it would be.
