Book Review: Four by Veronica Roth

Hey Guys!

It’s time for the last book review of 2017! I cannot believe that we are at the end of the year already. What is the last book that you read this year? For me, it is this book. Four by Veronica Roth, so, here is my review for it.

I read the whole Divergent trilogy last year, and although I had mixed feelings about it, I did generally fairly enjoy it. And since I did enjoy it for the most part I have been wanting to pick up Four pretty much ever since I finished the books. It has taken me a year to do it, but I am glad that I finally have.

I really enjoyed this little book. When reading Allegiant, I really enjoyed the parts from Four’s perspective. More so then Tris’ at times. I’m not sure why, but I did. I just found him to be a more interesting narrator. And so it was nice to get to read more from him. I also liked that we got to know more about him as a character and more about his background. When I first heard about this collection I automatically assumed that it was just going to be retelling the key moments from Divergent. But it wasn’t. It was more than that. yes, there was some retelling based stuff but there was enough new content in it for it not to feel overdone. But what I liked best was the first three stories because they were all based on Four’s Backstory.

I found it really interesting to see more of where he came from and what moulded him. Obviously in the main trilogy we the fear landscape and all that sort of stuff, which tells us about his past, but it was just really interesting seeing it from his perspective. It gave everything a new light and fleshed out areas that had been a bit vague. I loved that we got the full Initiate experience as well. You really got to see how things had changed in Dauntless but it also meant that you got to see how Four had changed and grown as a person.

I did also quiet like seeing Four and Tris’ interactions as well. I am glad that that was included but not wasn’t the main focus of the book. It was just nice to see a little bit of these two again. And I liked that, because it was from Fours perspective, you did get to witness another take on it.

Overall, I did enjoy this book. It was a nice, easy read and just fleshed out the Divergent universe that little bit more. It kind of brought it to a full close for me.
