Book Review: The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling

Hey Guys!

It is time for a book review and we are finally back to normal, non-Christmas books. This week it time for a children’s classic. Yep, I have finally read The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. Let’s do this!

First off, I would highly recommend listening to the audiobook for this one. Audible have a full cast dramatized version complete with sound effects, background music and animal noises. It made it feel as if I was listening to a movie instead of a book. It was brilliant. as was the book in general. I loved it.

My only real experience of the jungle book up till this point was the Disney animation, which I hate. So I really wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this book, but I honestly ended up loving it so much. It is just such a beautiful story. there is so much going on. i wasn’t expecting there to be so much depth to the story. I just assumed that this was going to be a very basic, feral child, story that felt incredibly unrealistic and very shallow, but I was so wrong. Something about the way Kipling has written this book just makes it all feel possible. Like he is telling a true story.

I think the reason why this book feels possible is because you can feel the relationships between the characters. You can feel how much Baloo and Bagheera and Kaa and so on care for Mowgli. Their relationships feel genuine and very real. you can picture all of these creatures lives weaving together to protect this innocent child and embracing him as their own. I don’t know if I am making any sense (I am ill while writing this), but basically I just felt as if I was there next to these amazing animals throughout this book. As if I was standing next to Mowgli and experiencing it all besides him.

Overall I really did enjoy this book. Reading this has made me more determined than ever to read more classics in the new year. What a brilliant book.
