For a couple of years now I have been really interested in getting a bookish subscription box and I have finally subscribed to one. The reason why it has taken so long to choose one is because of the price of them. the most popular boxes, Owlcrate and Fairyloot, cost too much. The boxes themselves are around £25 and the shipping is another £15-20. It is just far too much for me. I cannot justify spending that much on a box, and I definitely can’t justify it every single month. But recently I found out about Illumicrate. They are a bookish subscription box based in the UK, so the shipping is so much cheaper and they are quarterly boxes, so it is only one box every three months. The boxes are £29.99 and the shipping is free. After watching several unboxings, I decided to give it a go. Over the weekend my first box arrived so I thought that I would do a little unboxing for you. Let’s do this.
The first thing that was in this box was two chapter samplers. The first is for This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada, the other is for Iron Gold by Pierce Brown. I was not expecting to get any samplers so I was really pleased with these. I have been hearing really great things about This Mortal Coil so I am excited to give it a go and I have had Red Rising on my TBR for a couple of years now and this has reminded me how much I want to read it.
The next thing in the box was a 2018 diary. The diary is by Prismofstarlings and is so cute. It is a Unicorn Journal. I love how simple it is and how useful. I will 100% be using this next year. I love it. I also love the quote on the front of it ‘I have nothing to declare but my genius. I can’t wait to use it.
The next thing in the box was a beautiful print by nutmegandar. The print is a quote from J K Rowling that says ‘If you don’t like to read you haven’t found the right book’ which I love. I think it is such a beautiful quote and I love the design of the print. It is all white and gold and is designed like a stack of books with the quote positioned as the title on the spines of the books. I honestly love this so much and cannot wait to find somewhere to display it.
The next item in the box was a 2018 ARC. Illumicrate don’t usually do ARCs but this box was their Birthday box so there was an ARC as well as the main book. The ARC is The City Of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty and is coming out in the spring. I hadn’t heard of this book before now but it sounds really good and I am excited to read it. it is a debut novel and is all about magic and adventure. Really pleased to have a copy of it.
The next item in the box was a candle! You know me, I love a good candle. This one is by Meraki Candles and is in the scent ‘Reading In Bed’, which smells like hot chocolate. Honestly, this candle smells so good. Exactly like a chocolate scented body butter I had from body shop a few years ago. Just so yummy. And it is really pretty. Not only is the tin adorable, but the name sticker is really cute. And the candle itself is adorable. It is a pale yellow colour and has pink glitter in it. I’m excited to burn it.
The next item in here is a tea towel, wasn’t expecting that. it is designed by evannaveillustration and is a really simple bookish design. It is a white background with turquoise illustrations on it. the illustrations are of Cacti, books, Tea, Glasses, Pens and what looks like library tickets. This is actually really cute and I will be saving this until I get my own place.
The final bookish item in this box is a necklace by ohpandaeyes and it is a ‘little tribute to stories set in space’. It is a little sliver necklace with a little moon and stars pendent on it. this is so damn cute. I love that it is really small and simple, the type of jewellery that I love. I honestly cannot wait to wear this. I think it is absolutely adorable and, may be, my favourite item from the box.
The final thing in here is, of course, the book. I had actually figured out which book this was going to be as soon as the details of the box where announced and that book is Artemis by Andy Weir. I am so excited. I read The Martian last year and feel in love with it and I have been hotly anticipating this book ever since I heard about it. I am so glad that I own a copy of it now. Plus, this is an exclusive to Illumicrate edition with black sprayed edges and it is just so beautiful and, just, oh my god, I am so excited. There was also a little Artemis travel brochure with it and a promotional bookmark.
And there we have it. I am really happy that I have finally given a subscription box a go. I really liked everything that was in this box and I will definitely be continuing my subscription. I love the fact that everything in this box is exclusive to Illumicrate, so there are only a certain number of each item in the world. Would you like me to do an unboxing every time one these boxes arrive? I would definitely be interested in doing these. I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again soon.
