Book Review: Vicious by V E Schwab

Hey Guys!

It is time for a book review. this time I am revisiting an author who is fast becoming one of my all-time favourites. The authors in question is of course, V E Schwab. So, without further ado, here is my review for Vicious.

Oh, I loved this book. It was so good! Schwab is a freaking genius! This book was amazing. It is the perfect blend fantasy, science and mystery. For the first half of this book you are very much trying to piece together the story and figure out what is actually going on, and I really liked this. I was worried when I first picked this one up that I would get lost, I mean it jumps about time wise and switches characters POV all the time, but it wasn’t actually at all difficult to follow the story. I loved it.

I think the reason why I loved this book so much is because it really blurs the lines between good and evil, villain and hero. It is really interesting to read and my opinions kept changing throughout the book. One minute I thought Victor was the bad one, then Eli, then Victor again, and so on. my opinions where constantly changing. Schwab did an amazing job at showing that everyone has bad in them, but it is what you do with that bad that truly decides if you are evil or not.

I also loved the characters in this story. I really liked both Victor and Eli, even though they are both kind of bad. I think the reason why I liked them both is because they are both very complex characters. They have lots of layers to them. take Victor, he is a cold hearted and selfish, he is easily jealous and also manipulative, but he is also somehow selfless and kind of caring. Doing it all for the greater good. To stop the bigger evil. And Eli, is very similar. Although one hides it much better than the other. This just made it really interesting to read and really helped me to connect to the characters.

I do also need to say how much I loved Mitch, Sydney and Dol. I love that this big, bad, escaped convict has somehow just ended up enquiring this band of misfits and form an almost family with them. Mitch, you expect. The 12-year-old girl and stray dog, not so much lol. And that is something that I love about this book. You can just see Victor getting landed with a whole posy of strays and growing to care for them.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I am curious to see where the sequel is going to go with it. all I know is that it is primarily written from Eli’s POV. I cannot wait to read that when it comes out. this book was brilliant.

And there we have it. those where my thoughts on Vicious. Have you read this one? What did you think about it? are you excited for the sequel? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.

  1. I’ve collected the trilogy and can’t wait to start reading – C’mon Christmas Holidays!! Fantastic reviews like yours are popping up all over the blogosphere so it’s getting harder and harder to resist – but I want a chunk of time to really get sucked into the boo without distraction. Looking forward to your next review.
