Book Review: A Court Of Wings And Ruin by Sarah J Maas

Hey Guys!

Happy Saturday! It’s time for another book review! This week I am finally finishing the main Court series by Sarah J Maas. Here is my review for A Court Of Wings And Ruin. Let’s do this.

My god I love this series! It is just so good. And this book was amazing. Maybe not quite as good as the previous book, but still amazing. I loved every second of it. what a brilliant way to end the main story arch of the series.

I really took my time reading this book and I am glad that I did. So much happens during this book. There isn’t a single boring moment in it. straight from the first page you are thrown into the action and the action does not stop. There is always something happening. Always something building. I really liked this as it kept my really captivated and drawn into the story. I needed to know what was going to happen next. There where so many twists and turns and unexpected events. You never quiet knew what was going to happen next. I will admit that I did find the ultimate battle a little bit underwhelming, but I generally find that in fantasy books. They can be a little bit anticlimactic. I think some of the problem with this one was because I knew there were going to be at least two more books featuring these characters after this book, so going into this one I knew that it would all work out in the end. But even with that, I still loved every second of this book.

I loved how much we have seen the characters evolve throughout this series. Particularly Fayre. I love how much she has grown as a person. When we first met her she was this unsure, unloved little human and she has become this strong, brave young woman who isn’t afraid to be a leader and who has found love. she has grown so much and I love the we have got to witness her develop so much. And I love that we got to see this with so many other characters as well. Rhys and Nesta, Elaine and Mor, Amren, Lucien, Cassian, everyone, even Tamlin. They all grew so much throughout these books and I really like that we got to witness this.

I am also a little conflicted over the representation in this book. I love that there is a gay High Lord and a bisexual one, I love that there are a pair of lesbian warriors, I think that it is great representation for the LGBTQ+ community, but there were a couple of aspects that I was a bit underwhelmed by. The possible asexual character was a bit of a let-down. Maas could have done so much more with that storyline but it kind of fell flat and there was also the closeted lesbian story which again, fell a bit short. I like that it existed and that it did appear as something that the character was still coming to terms with, but I think that because it barely addressed or revealed, it just could have been more. it was good that the representation was there, it just could have been a bit better.

Overall I am so happy that I have finally read these books. I am a little bit conflicted over the books to come as I don’t think that they are really necessary, although it will be nice to get more of the world. I do just kind of wish that they were maybe set in the future, or where following a different group, Hellion perhaps, or Eris, even Tamlin. But, oh well. I am just happy that I will be getting more of this amazing world.
