Book Review: The Blood Of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Hey Guys!

It’s book review time! Whoop whoop! This week I am finishing a series that I freaking love. That’s right today I am finally finishing the Heroes Of Olympus series by Rick Riordan. So without further ado, here is my review for The Blood Of Olympus.

I think I actually like this series even more then the original Percy Jackson books! It is that good! I honestly loved this series so much. I am so sad that it is over. This series started off brilliantly, and then got even better and better with each book. And this was the perfect end to the series.

This last book was everything that I hoped that it would be. The storylines where amazing. The action kicked off right from the start and the whole book was very fast paced. It kept me gripped the whole way through. There was so much action and drama throughout this book. And everything came to a climax perfectly. I am so happy with the way this book was done. Everything was wrapped up so well. There weren’t really any loose ends, and there were enough hints about things that I now really want to read Trial Of Apollo. I am just so pleased with this book. It was everything that I wanted, and more.

I also loved that this series felt older. I don’t know if it was because the bulk of the characters are 16/17, or what, but the whole series felt like it was for an older audience. It was much darker and more complex then the original Percy Jackson books, which I really like. I really like that the world is getting darker. It is meaning that, despite the fact that I am now 21, I still really enjoy these books. They really do not read as middle grade to me.

And I adore the characters. I love that this series allowed us to see more of Annabeth and Percy and Nico, with little glimpses of Tyson and Grover and all the characters that we know and love. But I also love all of the characters that it introduced us too. I love every single new character that we meet. Everyone is so complex and real. You can’t help but connect to everyone in some way. I also love the pairings. Jason and Piper, Hazel and Frank, Leo and Calypso. Even the direction that Nico is taking. I just love it. I know that I would not have loved this story as much as I did, if I hadn’t loved these characters so much.

The only slight source of disappointment for me was the final battle. I always find in series focused around one villain/bringer of evil, that their ultimate defeat always feels a bit anti-climactic. I felt this with the original Percy Jackson books, Harry Potter, Shades Of Magic and so many others. This is always going to be an issue with truly epic series. The end is always going to be a little bit anti-climactic. But even so, I did really like the way that the ending was handled. It felt right.

But overall I loved this book and I loved this whole series. I cannot explain to you how incredible it is and how glad I am that I finally decided to pick it up and read it. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with this world all over again.

And there we have it. if you haven’t read this series yet, I cannot recommend it highly enough. I freaking love it. I am so excited to read more of Riordan’s work, although I am nearly up to date with it now. Have you read this series yet? What do you think about it? which book was your favourite? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
