Book Review: Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Hey Guys!

It’s time for another book review. This week it is the turn of Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, so lets do this.

My all time favourite Studio Ghibli film is Howl’s Moving Castle, so when I found out that it was originally a book I knew that I had to read it. My sister actually brought this for me for my birthday back in July, and I have finally read it. And believe me, it did not disappoint I loved it. It is quiet different from the film, but equally as brilliant. There is a lot more to the book.

This book is truly beautiful, I loved it. It is just such a lovely story. I already knew that I would love the main storyline of this book, having loved the film for so many years, but I wasn’t expecting to love everything that wasn’t included in the film as much as I did. There are so many little storylines twirling off the main one, it is brilliant. I was actually amazed at how much was actually cut from the book when the film was made.

I loved the characters in this book. They are charming and funny, sweet and loving, mysterious and confusing. Book Sophie is so much deeper then I expected her to be. There is so much more to her. I loved the fact that it turned out that she was actually influencing things around her, with her even realising. I think that it was a really nice twist. I also love the fact that Howl is welsh. I was not expecting that lol.

And honestly, this story just has everything you could ever want in a book. You have magic and love, royalty, good and evil, the meaning of family and so much more. I loved every second of it. The whole book just leaves you yearning for more of this incredible world. I want to step inside Howl’s castle, I want to talk to Calcifer and make potions with Michael. The whole book is just so beautifully written. You can feel yourself being dragged into this world from the first page. Plus, I loved the fact that each chapter had a little illustration at the start. It really helped to bring the story to life.

Overall I really liked this book. I am defiantly going to be reading the other two books in this trilogy. I honestly just love this story so much. It is the perfect mixture of magic and drama, with a swirl of love thrown into it.

4.5 out of 5

honestly, this is the perfect book to curl up with on a cold autumn night. I loved it. I will defiantly be buying the other two books in the series straight after Christmas I hope that you have enjoyed today’s post and I will see you all again soon
